Hi, I'm Giuseppe Urso. Welcome to my blog.

I'm a sysadmin and software developer from Italy who has been working with GNU/Linux since 2004. I've been a Debian user since 2006 and I've never looked back. My day job involves managing servers, deploying services, and keeping everything running smoothly — always on Debian, always with Free Software.

This blog is a collection of the things I figure out along the way. If a solution exists but takes me a while to find, I write it up here so it's easier for the next person. That's the spirit of Free Software, right?

What you'll find here

This blog is divided into roughly two halves:

  • Debian & Free Software: sysadmin tips, how-tos, fixes for things that are broken, and general GNU/Linux stuff. Topics include Zimbra, PostgreSQL, Docker, LDAP, Bareos, Shibboleth/SAML, ISPConfig, and more.
  • Audio & Music: my hobby of collecting, restoring and occasionally building vintage audio gear. Tube amplifiers, reel-to-reel tape recorders, classic speakers, turntables, and the occasional guitar amp build.

A bit about me

I grew up tearing things apart to see how they work. Some of them I even put back together. I started with electronics, then discovered computers, and somehow ended up spending most of my time on the software side. But the hardware bug never really went away — which is why my workshop is full of vintage audio gear in various states of disassembly.

When I'm not in front of a computer or a soldering iron, I play guitar, listen to a lot of music (mostly classic rock, blues, and jazz), and enjoy a good espresso.

Philosophy

I believe in Free Software — not just as a development model, but as a fundamental freedom. I believe you should have control over the technology you use. That's why this blog itself and everything I write here is released under the GNU GPL.

“Avoid the Gates of Hell. Use Linux!”
